Silk Frenzy in the Pre-Modern World

Silk was the high-hi display back then.
It gave higher pixel density, vibrant colors,
more fine details, as well as smoother transitions.
Silk was also the OLED.
It provides higher brightness levels because "the
molecules of silk protein are stacked together to
make triangular tubes. These triangular tubes act
like prisms and reflect the light in many directions."
.
Silk plays magically with light and transparency.
This is probably the icing on the cake.

Sexy silk underwear

Super thin and light.
Can be put into an empty match box.

Touching and smelling are equally
sensuously intense experiences.

Silk purrs (絲鳴)

Silk is ethereal. It could melt in the air
with a kiss.
.
Silk is strong. It was deemed the most
lenient way to go when a person
(royal members in imperial China in particular,
emperors included)
was forced to leave this world.
He or she, holding a white silk belt in hands,
would look up for a beam or a tree (usually a beam)
after receiving the order.

The taste of silk?
The silk embroidered lotus shoes...
People are shocked when they realize how
a woman's lotus shoes (considered a sex
organ)
functioned after seeing some
of those erotic illustrations of old times...

ps: Here comes a rather heartbreaking and
bewildering subject - foot binding
(prevalent for at least 1000 years).
Girls were maimed forever from
4 or 5 years old
to achieve the three-inch (about 10cm)
golden lotus standard.

Hi beautiful~
Aren't you feeling a bit tired walking in
those cute blackcrystal high-heeled pumps?
Would you like to take a break for a story?
A fascinating story of why...
.
Some people may consider running on treadmills
repetitive and dull.
Why not combine a treadmill with a weaving machine?
Let's see what is coming out? Keep running!
Looking forward to a new scarf for Christmas!

How could the secret of sericulture (silk production)
be kept for so long? Unimaginable...
.
We, in Taiwan,
had to learn silkworm rearing* in elementary school.
A traumatic experience to a child it turned out to be...
.
Silkworms only eat mulberry leaves.
They don't even drink water.
If leaves are human's first fashion item.
Haven't we come a long way!
Oh yeah?
Could it be that silk was just another form of leaves?
Leaves + super enzymes in the guts of a special creature.
Actually silk growing on trees like leaves was
exactly what a lot of people believed for a long time.
.
* Silkworm Rearing
We were told to take great care
of those "silkworm babies",
which was a demanding and delicate job
even for an adult person,
only to realize that their fate
was to be killed
at their most vulnerable moment.
Before wings.
Before the taste of freedom.

Mulberry Tree
- Referred to as sacred across different cultures
- The infrastructure of sericulture
(the sole nutrition for silkworm)
- Paper making
- Mulberry leaves are highly toxic to caterpillars
other than the silkworm (what?)
We would be marveled at the insanely
good appetite these little worms showed.
"Look how fast they are growing up!"
Kids could change their opinion toward
green vegetables you know 🤪

Oddly enough silkworms remind me of John Keats.
Never stop creating till the last cough of blood.
Passion is red.
To silkworms,
silvery.
